When faced with challenges left behind by the original contractor, Thermal Creek stepped in and turned around many of the geothermal systems for the Spring Creek development. Subsequently, Thermal Creek has been retained to perform scheduled maintenance and repairs for all geothermal systems in the development.
Spring Creek Mountain Village, also known as SCMV, is a unique development in the heart of Canmore.
The entire community sits on an abundant aquifer and as a result, the developer decided early on in the development to use a geothermal open well style system for all buildings. In essence, an open well style system uses a set of supply and discharge water-wells to perform the heat exchange with. Incredibly cost-effective, but certainly very site specific, this type of geothermal solution was the right choice for the community.
Thermal Creek was introduced to the project in 2011 when some issues around the original contracting company arose. We have been coming there ever since to perform service and maintenance on the geothermal systems.
There are many interesting facts and events regarding this community. It has been interesting to see how the geothermal installations evolved over time. The earlier buildings had what we called the swimming pools – essentially a big basin with heat-exchanger plates to allow for energy transfer. The current design is a more direct exchange without the swimming pool and larger NORDIC Commercial (81-tons) Water-to-Water heat pumps.
