Britannia Contemporary

Brittania Geothermal House
Inner-city Contemporary masterpiece

Britannia Contemporary Geothermal, Calgary

This contemporary new build in Britannia is a masterpiece in geothermal comfort. It features a combination of forced air and infloor radiant heating throughout the entire house.

This was the second residential project we completed with Barham Contracting. Fred Barham and his team operate on a different level compared to most builders in Calgary. The quality of design and workmanship are some of the highest we have seen in the industry and it was an absolute joy working with them on this project.

Many didn’t believe it possible, but the house is comfortable year-round with 100% geothermal and no boiler or furnace backup.

The geothermal system features two NORDIC Triple Function heat pumps. These versatile geothermal heat pumps combine forced air heating & cooling, with in-floor radiant heating and domestic hot water preheat.

Interesting facts

This was one of these projects where we received quite a bit of push-back from the conventional mechanical trades. Nobody believed that this house could be heated 100% by geothermal. There was a strong push for installing back-up boilers. This would have unnecessarily increased complexity and cost for the owner.

The builder, to his credit, stood by us and together we pushed back. Since 2016 this home has been heated comfortably 100% by geothermal.
