Thermal Creek selected to deliver the geothermal field for Stony Plain Recreation Centre
We are thrilled to announce that Thermal Creek was selected to deliver the Stony Plain Recreation Centre geothermal field.
The Town of Stony Plain has initiated the planning of a recreation facility to serve the indoor recreation needs of the region. The development of a recreation facility was identified as a strategic priority for Council in 2018 and is included as a key strategic priority in the 2025-2028 Strategic Plan. The construction of the facility was identified as an action item in the 2024-2026 Corporate Plan
Drilling 60 boreholes complete
The project included 60 boreholes drilled to 150m (492ft) deep each. We completed this in the summer of 2025.
6 x 10 boreholes header fusion complete
Directly following the drilling phase was the header fusion tie-in crew to start assembling the 6 geothermal headers.
Headers were all constructed using a parallel reverse return concept for flow balancing. We used a combination of Butt-Fusion and Socket-Fusion techniques.
The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2026.
